Kevin Lerena (* 5. May 1992 in Johannesburg , South Africa ) is a South African professional boxer and current IBO champion in the cruiserweight division .
Career
The southpaw began his professional career in 2011 when he knocked out Justice Silinga in the second round .
At the end of September 2014 he won the vacant Youth Silver title of the WBC against Gogita Gorgiladze by knockout in round 3. His next fight, which took place in November of the same year and was scheduled for 10 rounds, Lerena lost to Johnny Muller by unanimous decision.
The following year Lerena boxed against Deon Coetzee for the South African championship belt and won on points. In April 2016 he faced Johnny Muller again. In this rematch, which was scheduled for 12 rounds, Lerena boxed for the South African championship title and the vacant Pan-African title of the WBA association . Lerena took revenge and defeated Muller in the 10th round with a technical knockout .
On October 22nd of the same year Lerena won against the previously undefeated Dane Micki Nielsen over 10 rounds by majority decision. On September 9th, 2017 Lerena won the title fight for the IBO cruiserweight championship against ex-WBA world champion Youri Kalenga over 12 rounds by split decision . In 2018 he defended the IBO title in March 2018 against Dmytro Kucher and in June 2018 against Roman Golovashchenko. In March 2019 he defended the title again against Artur Mann .
