Kevin Mor McCrimmon (* 1941 ) is an American mathematician .

McCrimmon grew up in Champaign-Urbana. In 1960 he received his bachelor's degree from Reed College in Portland and received his doctorate in 1965 with Nathan Jacobson at Yale University (Norms and Noncommutative Jordan Algebras). In 1964/65 he spent a year in algebra at the University of Chicago , where alongside Nathan Jacobson the algebraists Abraham Adrian Albert , Irving Kaplansky , Israel Herstein , Shimshon Amitsur , Daniel Zelinsky , Richard Schafer and Paul Cohn taught. As a post-doctoral studenthe was at MIT with Richard Schafer, where he was a Moore instructor in 1966. From 1967 he was at the University of Virginia , where he was an associate professor in 1968 and a professor in 1972. From 1972 to 1975 he headed the mathematics faculty. In 1968 he received a research grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation ( Sloan Research Fellowship ).

He deals with Jordan algebras . In 1966 he introduced quadratic Jordan algebras.

In 1974 he was a lecturer at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Vancouver (Quadratic methods in nonassociative algebras). In 1977 he was awarded a Humboldt Research Prize at the University of Münster with Max Koecher . In 1984 he was visiting scholar in Munich with Kurt Meyberg and in 1990 in Ottawa, Bombay and Oxford. Since 1982 he has also been the co-organizer of conferences on Jordan algebras in Oberwolfach. In 2017 he became a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society .
