Kheïreddine Madoui ( Arabic خير الدين مداوي) ( March 27, 1977 in Sétif ) is an Algerian football coach and former player .

Career

As a player

In terms of football, Kheïreddine has long been anchored in his hometown. There he began his professional career in 1997 at ES Sétif . Only between 2000 and 2002 he played for CR Belouizdad from the capital Algiers for two seasons - however, he won his only title as a player there in 2001 with the championship. After his return to ES Sétif, he had to end his active career in 2005 at the age of only 28 due to a serious leg injury.

With the U-23 national team, he took part in the 1997 Mediterranean Games in Bari , southern Italy , and was used on June 8 in the game against Turkey (2-2). All three Algerian games in the group stage ended in a draw, which was not enough for the team to advance to the semi-finals. In September of the following year, he represented his country with the youth team at the 1998 Arab Nations Cup in Qatar . He was on the field in both games against Lebanon (0-0) and against Saudi Arabia (0-3) - with these results Algeria failed again in the group stage. Later, Kheïreddine completed twelve full international matches (7 compulsory, 5 friendship), in which he scored three goals. He made his debut on April 9, 2000 against Cape Verde and his last game was against Namibia on June 30, 2001 .

As a trainer

In 2010 he got a job as an assistant coach at ES Sétif. With two championships and a cup win, this chapter of his career was successful. He served under six different coaches and also served as an interim coach between September 8 and 26, 2013. In the course of the engagement of Rabah Saâdane as head coach - which was only for a short time from the start - it was announced at the beginning of December of the same year that Madoui would be his successor. On July 8, 2014, Kheïreddine Madoui took up the post as head coach of ES Sétif as planned.

Madoui took over the team before the fourth matchday of the group stage of the CAF Champions League 2014 . In the remaining games he managed to secure second place in the table, which meant qualifying for the semifinals. There they prevailed thanks to the away goals rule against the four-time title holder TP Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and moved into the final. Kheïreddine Madoui became the youngest coach to date to lead a team into the final of an African club soccer competition. The two final games against AS Vita Club - also from the DR Congo - on October 26th and November 1st ended 2: 2 and 1: 1. Again because of the away goals rule, ES Sétif won the most important African club soccer competition with the CAF Champions League. Under the impression of the triumph, Madoui and the club management extended his contract on November 17th until the end of 2017. Against al Ahly Cairo - winner of the CAF Confederation Cup 2014 and with eight titles record winner of the CAF Champions League - the ES Sétif, trained by Madoui, secured itself Stade Mustapha Tchaker of the Algerian city of Blida also won the CAF Super Cup on February 21, 2015 . Previously, he was in on January 8 Nigerian Lagos by the Continental Association CAF was awarded as Africa's Coach of the Year - the first club coach since of 2006.

At the national level, however, the successes did not yet materialize: In the Algerian Cup competition 2014/2015 they were eliminated in April 2015 in the semi-finals against the eventual winner MO Béjaïa on penalties . On May 1, 2015, Madoui announced that he would be leaving office at the end of the season. In the weeks before, he had seen himself exposed to massive criticism from some fan groups. He said it was important to him to emphasize that he “did not want to be held responsible for the general problems of the team.” His announcement left the club's management enough time to look for a successor; he himself wants to look around for new challenges. He still managed to win the championship with the team.

Contrary to Madoui's announcements, Sétif's management announced in June 2015 that he would remain the team's head coach for the 2015/16 season.
