The Kieler Brücke spans the Berlin-Spandauer Schifffahrtskanal at km 10.63 and connects the Berlin district Moabit in the former West Berlin district of Tiergarten with Mitte in the former East Berlin Mitte district at the south-eastern end of Berlin's northern port .

The previous bridge, built in 1883, was damaged in World War II . The Kiel Bridge could be used until the Wall was built, but was then closed. At the end of the 1960s, the Kiel Bridge was dismantled as part of border security measures.

In the 1980s, the West Berlin Senate planned to create a promenade around the northern harbor and in 1988 acquired the eastern shore area from the GDR . The reconstruction plans for the Kiel Bridge, which began at that time, were not implemented until 1994.

The new building is a steel arch bridge with a walkway below. The mass of the steel is around 42  tons . It is only passable for pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge was laid over the Berlin-Spandau shipping canal on November 21, 1994 and opened at the end of 1994. It has a clear passage height of 4.88 m (right and left) to 4.98 m (center) above the canal with a passage width of 27.97 m. The bridge itself is 45.61 m long, 2.80 m wide and lined with wooden planks.
