Kieth Merrill

Kieth Merrill (born May 22, 1940 in Utah ) is an American screenwriter , director and film producer .

Life

Merrill graduated from Brigham Young University and served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Denmark . For his first film, the documentary The Great American Cowboy , in which he worked as both director and producer and for which he was able to win Joel McCrea as narrator, he received an Oscar in 1974 in the category of best documentary . In 1993 he was for the two-part documentary miniseries The Wild West for the Emmy nominated. He received another Oscar nomination for the short film Amazon, with Linda Hunt as the narrator. Merrill is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Directors Guild of America . He is married and has eight children.
