Kilvaxter is a Croftersiedlung on the Scottish Isle of Skye in the Council area Highland . The Gaelic name can be roughly translated as Church of Bacastar . It belongs to the Civil Parish Kilmuir and had about 250 inhabitants at the 2011 census.
Early forms of names are in 1561 Keilbakstar and 1630 and 1654 Kilvakisa . In 1878 the settlement consisted of a total of 41 roofed buildings and had a school, a church and an inn . In 1966 the number of buildings had dropped to 31. In terms of traffic, Kilvaxter can be reached via the A855 , via which connections with the ferry port in Uig and the island's capital Portree are possible.
In 2000, Kilvaxter's Iron Age basement was discovered in Kilvaxter . It has been archaeologically examined and is open to the public.
