Kim Chae-ryong

Kim Chae-ryong (Korean: 김재룡 ) is a North Korean politician who served as Chairman of the Council of Ministers from April 11, 2019 to August 13, 2020 , making it de jure head of government. He is also a member of the Supreme People's Assembly and a member of the Labor Party of Korea .

Political career

Little is known about Kim's early career. Before his tenure, he held positions in political leadership in various industrial locations. Around 2007 he was appointed to his first major position as secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Labor Party of Korea by P'yŏngan-pukto . He was appointed acting secretary of the provincial committee in Chagang in 2015 and officially served as the provincial party secretary from 2016 to 2019, when he was replaced by Kang Bong-hun in that position . Kim became a member of the party's Central Committee in 2016.

Chairman of the Council of Ministers

On March 10, 2019, Kim was elected to the Supreme People's Assembly in the general election. Less than a month later, during the first session of the 14th Supreme People's Assembly, Kim was appointed chairman of the Council of Ministers, replacing Pak Pong-ju . He was also elected a member of the Politburo and the Central Military Commission.

He was replaced by Kim Tok-hun on August 13, 2020 .
