Kim Ha-gi (born June 24, 1958 in Ulsan , South Korea ) is a South Korean writer .

Life

Kim Ha-gi was born on June 24, 1958 in Ulsan , South Korea . As a student at the Pusan State University , he took part in the student movement in 1978 and was arrested in 1980 for demonstrating against the expansion of martial law. For his involvement in an action by government opponents in Pusan (Purim incident, 1981 ), he was sentenced to ten years in prison and only released eight years later in 1988 . His first work A young man is locked up (한 젊은이 가 갇혀 있다) consists of letters and poems that he wrote during his imprisonment.

Kim wrote many stories depicting the suffering of long-term prisoners and their indestructible will to endure it. His works have been criticized by some for being too schematic, but it is undeniable that Kim was instrumental in making the problems of long-term prisoners public. His work, Flug ohne Ziel, is about struggling student activists and individuals who are confronted with rapidly changing social conditions. In contrast to his other stories, this work is about young people and their efforts to rediscover the suffering of the older generation, but at the same time to create their own identity.
