Kim Sung-su (* 1961 ) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter .

Life

In the 1990s, Kim Sung-su began his career in the film industry as a screenwriter, prop master and assistant director on films such as Blue in You , Berlin Report and They Were Like Us . His debut film Scream City received critical acclaim and the Seoul Independent Film Festival's Critics' Prize . In 1997 his film Beat ensured star status for the leading actors, Jung Woo-sung and Ko So-young . In 1998 he released the film City of the Rising Sun , with Lee Jung-jae and again with Jung Woo-sung. In 2001 he released the lavish period film Musa - The Warrior with Jung Woo-sung and Zhang Ziyi . In 2003 he published the comedy Please Teach Me English before taking a ten-year break. In 2013 he returned with the disaster film Pandemie ( Gamgi 'Flu'; international title: The Flu ). The film was relatively successful with over three million moviegoers, but received mostly bad reviews. In 2016 he returned with the more successful gangster film Asura: The City of Madness , in which Jung Woo-sung again played the lead role.
