The Children's Hospital Park Schönfeld was a subsidiary of the Kassel Clinic in Kassel ( Hesse , Germany ). The Gesundheit Nordhessen Holding (GNH AG) had the Children's Hospital Park Schönfeld from the German Evangelical Women's Federation transferred and assigned to the Klinikum Kassel. When the children's hospital closed, 363 people (37 doctors and 207 nurses) were employed there.

history

In 1909, the Children's Hospital Park Schönfeld was opened as a children's home on the initiative of Felix Blumenfeld and Elisabeth Consbruch , co-founders of the German-Evangelical Women's Association (DEFB) and head of its Kassel local group . However, in the course of the next few years it was transformed into a children's hospital, whose first chief physician was Blumenfeld. This change was completed in 1917. In that year the state recognized as an infant care school (later this term changed to child care school).

In 1928 the surgical pediatric ward was opened, which in 1975 was expanded into “full-time” departments for pediatric surgery and pediatric anesthesia . The years 1976–1978 were marked by extensions and renovations in the areas of: Pediatric surgery and pediatric radiology department. In 1988, the pediatric surgery area was again greatly expanded.

The year 1934 was marked by the construction of the ward block.

The Second World War brought restrictions, so that the children's hospital was relocated to Helmarshausen ( Bad Karlshafen ) from 1942 to 1946 . The reconstruction lasted until 1948.

In 1962, the nurses' house was built and premises were created for the children's nursing school. The years 1963–1973 were characterized by the expansion and renovation of the mother and ward block. In 1974 the playground and car park were finally created. In order to provide acute medical care for the North Hesse region more quickly , a helicopter landing pad was set up in 1992. Finally, in 1996, a new chapter in medical care began: the renovation or new construction of the intensive care and premature infants ward. This was gradually expanded to include the ward for early rehabilitation of severely skull - brain- damaged children. In 2001 the psychosomatic ward was added as the last component.

In 2003 it was taken over by GNH AG. In 2007 the foundation stone was laid with the Kassel Clinic for a new center for gynecological and pediatric medicine at the Kassel Clinic.

In 2011 the Children's Hospital Park Schönfeld was the only facility in Northern Hesse to be recognized as a cystic fibrosis center. On December 1, 2011, the Children's Hospital Park Schönfeld moved into the newly built center for women's and children's medicine at the Kassel Clinic.

Since the decision to move the Children's Hospital Park Schönfeld to the Center for Women's and Children's Medicine in 2010, a suitable successor use of the building has been sought. The local advisory board of the Kassel district of Südstadt , in which the children's hospital is located, has proposed that the children's hospital be converted into a children's hospice . In 2012 it was proposed to convert the now vacant children's hospital into accommodation for asylum seekers and it has been used as such since the end of 2014.
