The children's tram was built in May 1960 with a gauge of 410 mm in the youth traffic garden of the city of Frankfurt am Main on the edge of the Grüneburg Park on Siesmayerstraße . The track is 220 m long and surrounds the youth traffic garden in a large oval. There is a junction to the parking facility in the youth traffic garden building. An overhead line does not exist. The route crosses an intersection equipped with a functional traffic light with driving signals for the train.

vehicle

The children's tram only has one vehicle that is externally modeled on the Frankfurt type K railcar , as it is in use in the city as an Ebbelwei express to the present day . The car was built in 1960 in the training workshop of the city of Frankfurt. The energy for the electric motor is provided by truck batteries with a voltage of 24 volts , which is enough for almost eight hours of uninterrupted operation. The power of the motor is 500 watts . The vehicle can accommodate up to five children and the driver. The vehicle is 330 cm long, 160 cm high (with simulated pantograph 220 cm) and 82 cm wide. It weighs 750 kg and has a top speed of 5 km / h. In 2007 the vehicle was overhauled. It is technically supervised by the Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt (VGF) and driven by police officers who give traffic lessons in the youth traffic garden.

business

The bus stop

The train operates as line 1 . It is mainly used during the local holiday games, but only rarely during regular traffic lessons.

The future of the children's tram and the entire site is currently open (as of August 2017), since after the neighboring biological institutes have moved away, the traffic garden may also give way to new buildings or be added to Grüneburgpark as a green area.
