history
King's College was founded on March 29, 1906 by Henry Walter Weatherhead, an Anglican priest of the Church Missionary Society (CMS), initially as King's High School . With financial support from Bishop Alfred Tucker's Namirembe Diocese , Weatherhead was initially able to teach 21 Ugandan boys. At the same time, a corresponding school for girls was set up with Gayaza High School. The school was built on the Budo Hill, the traditional coronation of the Kabaka of Buganda is. Buganda's Prime Minister Apolo Kagwa praised a bike for the best graduate of the school.
While initially only the offspring of the Bugandan aristocracy were trained, the school soon opened to ordinary citizens. In 1922, King's High School was renamed King's College . Six girls were taught for the first time in 1933, making Budo one of the first co-educational schools in Uganda.
Today the number of students is around 1200, these are taught by around 70 teachers.
