King's Quest III: To Heir Is Human is the third part of the computer game series King’s Quest, created by Sierra Entertainment (formerly Sierra On-Line) . It was the first game in the series in which King Graham was not the character. This is the case in five more of the eight episodes.

Thanks to ScummVM , King's Quest III can be played on many other operating systems, including Linux , macOS and Windows 10 .

action

King's Quest III is not set in Daventry, like the first two games in the series, but in the land of Llewdor, where a boy named Gwydion is held captive by an old magician named Manannan. Gwydion was once kidnapped from Daventry when he was a little boy. He has to look after the house and the welfare of the magician, cleaning, cooking and looking after the animals. The boy finally discovers a secret room in which the magician keeps his magical ingredients and in which there is also a book with magic formulas. You can only enter this room after Manannan has left the house for a while. All magical items that Gwydion takes must be hidden in his room before the latter returns. With the help of a magical map, the player can teleport to all places that he already knows. Even this, however, only as long as the wizard is asleep or away from home. Only when the boy succeeds in transforming Manannan into a cat is he free and can return to Daventry. It turns out that the boy Gwydion is actually Alexander, the missing son of King Graham and Queen Valanice.

Others

The game has a simple copy protection; you can only answer it correctly if you know the page numbers in Manannan's book with the individual spells.

The title of this episode is a play on the saying To Err is Human (dt .: To err is human ). The words heir (Erbe) and err (to erren) sound similar in some English accents.
