King's Quest II: Romancing the Throne is the first sequel in the King's Quest series created by Sierra Entertainment (formerly Sierra On-line). It uses the same AGI game engine as King's Quest I: Quest for the Crown and presents King Graham as the character.

Thanks to ScummVM , King's Quest II can be played on many other operating systems, including Linux , macOS and Windows 10 .

action

One day after Sir Graham was made king by the recovery of the magical items from Daventry, he looked in the magical mirror. It shows King Graham a vision of a beautiful woman named Valanice who is locked up on top of an ivory tower. Bewitched by her, he is teleported to the world of Kolyma to save her. There he has to travel through sea, air and even death to get the keys to the three doors through which he can get to the world of the witch Hagatha, who Valanice holds captive in the tower.

title

The name is most likely a parody of the film On the Hunt for the Green Diamond (Original title: Romancing the Stone) (1984) by Robert Zemeckis .

Re-releases

The game was released as a bootable floppy disk in 1985 but re - released in 1987 with EGA support to run under DOS . This is why most of the rest of the games have copyrighted 1987 rather than 1985.

Because of the disappointing sales of the 1990s remake of King's Quest I, the hope of a remake of King's Quest II was gone. In 2001, however, a fan remake of King's Quest II was released. This partly deviates considerably from the original plot and uses the alternative title "Romancing the Stones".
