The game was designed with high-resolution graphics that are reminiscent of Disney animation films. It's also the only King's Quest game with multiple main characters and the only game that breaks the story into chapters.
About ScummVM is King's Quest VII will be played on many other operating systems, including Linux , macOS and Windows 10 .
action
At the opening of the game, Queen Valanice teaches her daughter Princess Rosella about the importance of marriage. Rosella is a little rebellious and dreams of adventure rather than finding a suitable husband. She catches a glimpse of something magical in a pond and jumps into it. Valanice follows her.
- Part 1 - "Where in the blazes am I?"
- Queen Valanice lands in a desert in the land of Eldritch and begins to look for her daughter there. She encounters different characters, such as a giant scorpion, a hare who has lost his glasses, or a walking dead who needs drinking water. She has to solve a few puzzles in order to be able to exit this area through a locked tunnel.
- Part 2 - "A troll is as a troll does."
- Princess Rosella finds herself in the realm of the trolls, where she was chosen as future consort for the king there. She has been turned into a troll herself. In addition, she is locked in a room and has to free herself from there. Rosella cannot leave Trollland until she has found a way to reverse the transformation. To do this, she needs a wide variety of objects to be found. As the two characters try to find each other, they discover that all of Eldritch's residents are in danger. The evil sorceress Malicia has attacked or arrested the leaders of the other kingdoms of Eldritch and plans to destroy the land.
- Part 3 - "The sky is falling!"
- Valanice now reaches a new blooming area through the tunnel, where she meets a deer guarding his wife (the mistress of the woods) who has been turned into a tree. She goes to the Dog Republic, a small place where there are a few puzzles to be solved again. At the end of the chapter, Valanice is arrested for allegedly stealing the moon (a cheese).
- Part 4 - "Will the real troll king please stand up."
- Rosella has regained her human form and takes a kind of elevator to an area that resembles a cemetery. You have to get an item called Extra Life, which is crucial for the outcome of the game. There she also meets the troll king Otar, with whom she tries to prevent Malicia's dark plans. You go to a secret room from which Malicia wants to erupt a volcano.
- Part 5 - "Nightmare in Etheria"
- Valanice is released again. She has to manage to get the flow of life back on track. Then she arrives at Malicia's house and through their garden also into the cemetery land, but without finding her daughter there. Valanice has to give the headless rider his skull back and receives a flute for it; With the help of this flute she can call a flying horse that will bring her to the land of Etheria. There she has to go to the three Parzen and can return to the different areas via four rainbows. In order to fulfill her mission, she has to work with Dr. Carcasses climb a coffin in the cemetery land, live a nightmare and heal the mistress of the woods and come to the gods for help.
- Part 6 - "Ready, set ... BOOM!"
- Rosella is in the control center where two identical troll kings fight each other. She now has to point a magic wand at one of the trolls so that the enchanted Edgar turns into a human again. Malicia arrives and teleports Rosella into the volcano's crater. But Edgar manages to get Valanice with the help of the flying horse - together with the gods they manage to prevent the outbreak. Malicia tries one last time to realize her plans by killing Edgar. Fortunately, Rosella has the extra life. However, if you don't give this to the prince at the end of the game, the outcome will be tragic; but if you give it to him, it will have a happy ending.
- Others
The name of this part is a pun on the title of the novel and film The Princess Bride (Engl. "The Princess Bride") by William Goldman . There are many film-like sequences built into this game, which are underlaid with music.
