The knightly canton of Baunach is a community of knightly aristocratic families in the Haßbergen who had risen to the ministry since the high Middle Ages as servants of the Staufer or the principalities of Bamberg and Würzburg and until the knighthood and regional principalities were mediated at the beginning of the 19th century Held feudal lordship over numerous villages and estates in the Haßbergen and adjacent areas. With the Holy Roman Empire, the knightly canton of Baunach was also dissolved in 1806.
