Kings of Modesty is a Finnish power and progressive metal band from Järvenpää , which was founded in 1994 under the name Face of Modesty .

history

The band was founded in 1994 by guitarist Samuel Hjelt and drummer Rane Simoinen. Friend Henkka Tuura joined the band as bass player, while Samuel's older brother Mikael took over the keyboard. Face of Modesty was chosen as the band name. After a few singers and other members had been in the band, Jason Flinck joined the band in 2005 and the name was changed to Kings of Modesty. Appearances in Finland and Switzerland followed . With producer Emppu Vuorinen , a friend of the band, a self-titled EP containing four songs was recorded in his E-Major Studios in 2007 and released that same year. The song Miracle was played by various radio stations in the United States . After further work, Samuel Hjelt and Jason Flinck began production of the debut album in autumn 2008. This lasted until winter, and in June 2009 the debut album was finally ready for release. After the group had signed a record deal with Escape Music , the recording was released across Europe in September under the name Hell or Highwater . Before it was released, the song Never Touched the Rainbow was played by radio stations across Europe. The album was mastered by Torsti Spoof and Jari Mikkola in Studio Audio and mixed by Mika Jussila in Finnvox Studios . After that, the band held performances and played with Tarja Turunen and Furnaze in Hanover , among others .

style

Dragonslayer from stormbringer.at found that Hell or Highwater was a mix of power and progressive metal. Particularly characteristic are "wide guitars" as well as retro-sounding keyboard sounds and a somewhat thin-sounding, high-pitched vocals. The music reminds me above all of that of Crystal Eyes and also somewhat of that of Brainstorm . The more progressive passages would bring back memories of Symphony X , Vanden Plas and Vanishing Point . Rainer Janaschke from musikansich.de also reviewed the album and described the music as melodic heavy metal , so that it could be classified between releases by Kamelot and Stratovarius . Overall, there are “[f] lotte mid-tempo songs, full of catchy melodies [and] great vocals”.
