history

The construction of the Eliaskirche began in 1822. After two years of construction in 1824, the church was completed and consecrated. Initially, the church did not have an iconostasis with icons, which is common for Orthodox churches . In 1864, when the old iconostasis of the Serbian Orthodox Church of the Dormition was soon to be replaced by a new one in the parish capital, Titel, it was given to the church in Lok.

The old iconostasis in Lok has been renovated and four icons have been added. The iconostasis is the work of an unknown master carpenter. Also unknown is the icon painter who created the baroque icons of the church in the baroque transition period in the second half of the 18th century. It is believed that the painter was Dimitrije Bačević . The academic painter August Tirk painted over the icons of the iconostasis in 1867 and also added some of his own icons. The wall paintings ( frescoes ) of the church are also attributed to him. Also in 1867, the academic painter August Miler renovated the iconostasis.

In 1986 the church was last renovated by the academic painter Dimitrije Riđički . Over time, all important information about the builders of the church has been lost. Aleksa Kuđeljić has been the priest of the Church since 2013.

architecture

The church is of a smaller construction and has a single nave with a three-sided choir in the width of the nave in the east and with low plinths and an equally low steeple with a not high-rise pointed dome in the west.

The facade of the church is decorated with pilasters with decorative capitals . The arched windows and niches are between the pilasters. In the apse there is only one window and two blind niches. The church inventory includes the episcopic and the Mother of God throne both from the end of the 19th century and are works by an unknown master.
