The Church of Maria vom Siege was a Roman Catholic parish church on Mariahilfer Gürtel in the 15th Viennese district of Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus , which was donated to the Coptic Orthodox Church in 2015 . The parish of Fünfhaus was abolished on June 30, 2016 and its area was added to the parish of Reindorf .

Building

St. Gereon (Cologne), Dekagon

The sacred building was built from 1868 to 1875 in the historicist neo-early Gothic style based on designs by the architect Friedrich von Schmidt , who also planned the Vienna City Hall . Schmidt had already drafted a church in 1858, but without already knowing the construction site. A wreath of chapels surrounds eight central pillars. The decagon of the St. Gereon Church in Cologne represents an exemplary architectural parallel in the basic structure with regard to the interior of the Vienna Church of Maria vom Siege .

On the right side altar is a copy of the image of Mary of Victory , which gave the church its name. The patronage goes back to the legend of the damaged miraculous image, which contributed to the victory of the Catholic League at the Battle of White Mountain on November 8, 1620, which also built the Roman church of Santa Maria della Vittoria . Since 1985 the church has been under the Kalasantine order .

With the small tower on the dome, the neo-early Gothic building reaches a height of 68 meters.
