The church Podelwitz is an Evangelical Lutheran church building in the district Podelwitz the town of Rackwitz in Nordsachsen in Saxony .

history

The oldest documented mention of the church comes from the year 1250. The construction of the church can also be dated to this time. Little has been changed about it to this day; only the spire of the 40 meter high tower was probably rebuilt at the beginning of the 17th century.

Furnishing

The three-way convertible winged altar was created in 1520 by the Leipzig sculptor Stefan Hermsdorf. It is considered to be one of his last altars. The weekday and Sunday side each show four panel paintings in the central shrine. It was restored in 2001/2002.

The pulpit , with the richly decorated pulpit lid, equipped with ornaments and painted representations of the four evangelists, of Paul and Christ on the pulpit and a representation of Moses on the pulpit stem, dates from 1594.

The double galleries from 1593 onwards were designed at the beginning of the 18th century by the painters Michael Kortzer (1701–1703) and August Roßmaessler (in the 1770s). On the gallery fields there are representations of biblical scenes from creation to revelation.

organ

The organ was built in 1841 by the organ builder Johann Gottlob Mende . After 16 years of inactivity, it was restored by Johannes Lindner in 1993. In 2011/2012 two rare historical reed registers ( physharmonica and oboe) were reconstructed and installed by Hermann Eule Orgelbau Bautzen . This largely restored the original condition. Shortly thereafter, the organ gallery was expanded after acute infestation by real dry rot . The instrument could sound again at Easter 2014. It has 22 registers, which are distributed over two manuals and pedal . The disposition is as follows:

Bells

Three bells ring in the church tower , including one of the oldest in Saxony. Until 2005 the system was in poor condition and the bells could only be rung by hand. They themselves hung on cranked steel yokes in a steel chair. In 2005/2006 the bell chamber was completely renewed: The bells got new wooden yokes and were hung in a new wooden bell chair. Linear motors now take over the drive. The bell arms were placed on the new yokes so that the existing ropes can be attached and the hand bell on special occasions is still possible today.
