history

The construction of the church began in 2002 when the then Bishop Artemije (Radosavljević) consecrated the foundations of the church to the eparchy. The church was built in the following years thanks to donations from the population.

And on June 7, 2015, the church was inaugurated by Bishop Teodosije (Šibalić) of the Raška-Prizren eparchy with the assistance of several clergymen and the presence of several hundred believers from the area.

Bishop Teodoije awarded Branislav Marinković from Raška the Order of St. King Milutin for his great service in building the church . In addition, Mr. Vladan and Dragan Milojević and Dragoljub Puzović from Supnje received the episcopal letter of blessing for their efforts.

The church is the seat of the two Supnje parishes in the Nikoljačka parish . The priest of the first parish of Supnje is Archpriest Dejan Nikolić (he was elevated to the rank of archpriest by Bishop Teodosije at the church consecration) and the priest of the second parish of Supnje is priest Mirko Jeremić.

architecture

It is designed in the form of a trikoncho and its structure is reminiscent of the medieval Morava school , a traditional style of the Serbian-Byzantine architectural style .

The plan of the church is an elongated Greek cross , with a semicircular altar - apse in the east and a central round dome that rises above the drum in the middle of the nave . On the west side of the church is the narthex with the main entrance to the church, above which there is an icon of the patron saint of St. Sava. There is another entrance to the church on the south side.

Typical for Orthodox church buildings, it has a (wooden) iconostasis with icons . The interior of the church is not currently frescoed .
