history

The Dominican convent was probably built in the middle of the 13th century (1238) when the Weidaer Vögte founded . It was first mentioned in a document in 1293.

Of the monastery buildings , only the church remains as a wide hall with a slightly drawn in rectangular choir. The enclosure was north of the church. The originally Romanesque church building was built from rubble stones and received Gothic pointed arch windows in 1411 . The church and the other monastery buildings were destroyed several times by fires and rebuilt. Prioress Margaretha von Hutten and the Dominican Marcus von Weida led the monastery to an economic boom.

After the Reformation the nunnery was closed. The Office Weida used from 1542, the vacant church as bulk House and encamped here Office crops. The present name Kornhaus comes from this time . The outbuildings of the monastery, as far as they still exist, were destroyed during the devastation of Weida and not rebuilt. In the middle of the 19th century, the Kornhaus was converted into a residential and commercial building. For a few years there was a wine shop and an inn . After the First World War , the city of Weida acquired the building and set up social housing in it ( homeless shelter ), some of which were still in use until 1980.

In 1992, a large part of the roof structure collapsed . Then the free-standing gable of the listed granary was secured.

Today we only see the ruins of the past glory.
