Kirk Mitchell

Kirk John Mitchell (born March 22, 1950 in Pasadena , California ) is an American author. He mainly deals with science fiction and alternative history and writes novels for films. Sometimes he also writes under the pseudonym Joel Norst. In German-speaking countries he was mainly known for his Germanicus trilogy.

Life

Mitchell studied English literature at the University of Redlands , graduating magna cum laude . Before he turned more to writing, he first trained at the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Academy and then served for a while as an assistant sheriff on an Indian reservation in the eastern Sierra Nevada , where he went on desert patrols with some Paiute , Shoshone , and Comanche . This experience sparked an ongoing interest in the cultures of these peoples and in their modern tribal life. He finished his career in law enforcement with the rank of SWAT Sergeant from Southern California.

He has been a full-time writer since 1983.
