Kito Šwjela

Kito Šwjela (German Christian Schwela , born February 21, 1836 in Saspow , Niederlausitz , Kingdom of Prussia ; † January 26, 1922 in Cottbus ) was a Lower Sorbian pedagogue , cantor , writer , publicist and translator .

Kito Šwjela attended the teacher training course in Leuthen after elementary school in Saspow . In 1853 he began training as a teacher in Neuzelle . From 1856 Kito Šwjela was an assistant teacher in Sergen .

In 1861 he became a teacher in Groß Oßnig . From 1863 Kito Šwjela was an editor at Bramborski Serbski Casnik , where he wrote and edited numerous articles until 1915. In 1866 he moved to Schorbus , where he also worked as a cantor. In 1880 he and others founded the Lower Sorbian department of Maśica Serbska .

Kito Šwjela retired in 1910 and has lived in Cottbus ever since. There he is buried in the north cemetery.

Kito Šwjela wrote not only articles for Bramborski Serbski Casnik and its successor periods, but also stories, songs and poems and translated.

He is the father of the pastor, linguist and publicist Bogumił Šwjela .

Honors

In his 50th year of service as a teacher, he was awarded the Red Eagle Order IV class and five years later the Royal Crown Order IV class. There are memorial plaques for Christian Schwela in Cottbus and Schorbus.
