The kkStB series of tenders 88 was a series of tenders operated by the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB).

The kkStB procured these tenders for its locomotives from 1916 . They were turntables and were supplied by the StEG locomotive factory , the Floridsdorf locomotive factory and the Ringhoffer wagon factory in Prague- Michov.

The kkStB tender series 88 was the last development of the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB). From 1902, the class 86 four-axle bogie tender was available for class 108 , 210 and 310 express locomotives . With a heavy express train of around 400 t, a run of only 130 km was possible. Using the limited axle pressure of 14.5 t, engineer Rihosek therefore developed a weight-saving tender with a water tank of 30 m³. Due to the specification of the low axle pressure, the filling of the water tank was initially limited to 27 m³. The weight reduction was mainly due to the use of inside frame bogies, which even with the locomotive series 106 / 206 achieved using found.

In 1915 the kkStB initially ordered two tenders from the StEG locomotive factory , which were delivered to the state railroad in 1916 with the designations 88.01 and 88.02. In addition to the two prototype tenders, another 25 units were ordered from the locomotive factories Floridsdorf (7 units) and Wiener Neustadt (8 units), as well as from the Ringhoffer wagon factory (10 units). These were intended for the ten locomotives of the 310.300–310.309 series and the 15 machines of the 470.13–470.27 series .

The seven tenders (88.03–88.09) which were built by the Floridsdorf locomotive factory in 1918 (with the serial numbers 1487–1493) came together with the seven class 310.3 locomotives to the Prussian railway administration, and later to Poland to the PKP . Three more tenders (88.10–88.12, serial number 2498–2500) were built by Ringhoffer in 1917 and sold to Poland in the immediate post-war period (tender series 27D11 ), the ones for the three “tender-free” machines of the 310.3 series, which PKP from the locomotive factory Floridsdorf bought the associated tenders directly.

Seven tenders (88.13–88.19) were to be delivered by the Ringhoffer wagon factory and eight tenders (88.20–88.27) by Wiener Neustadt for the 15 class 470 (470.13–470.27) locomotives ordered by the kkStB from the Wiener Neustadt locomotive factory. The 15 pieces of the mountain express train locomotive series 470 had to be canceled because the production of freight locomotives was more important to the war effort. With the cancellation of this order, the eight tenders (88.20–88.27) ordered by the Wiener Neustadt locomotive factory were no longer delivered. The seven tenders ordered by the kkStB (88.13–88.19), however, were manufactured by the Ringhoffer wagon factory in 1919 (factory number 2609–2615) and were subsequently sent directly to the ČSD (tender series 727 ).

When the vehicle was divided up after the First World War, tender 88.01 remained in Austria and was still used by the ÖBB as water car 923 101. Tender 88.02 came to ČSD (727.001).
