The steam locomotive series kkStB Z was a narrow gauge - Tender Locomotive series of Imperial State Railways of Austria .

The Pinzgauer Lokalbahn procured four locomotives for the operation (which was run by the kkStB) on the Zell am See - Krimml route , the names of which come from the first letter of the town of Zell am See. Although the machines were soon overwhelmed, they were not replaced by the BBÖ with U series machines  until 1928 .

Locomotive 6 of the StLB on the Taurach Railway

The Z series was retired between 1932 and 1939, although the Deutsche Reichsbahn no longer gave them their own numbers in 1938. The vehicle fleet was supplemented by the newly acquired and stronger Uh series .

Three very similar machines that were not assigned to the Z series were procured by the Styrian State Railways for the Thörlerbahn , where they were given the operating numbers 5-7. The locomotives were named "AFLENZ", "Thörl" and "HOCHSCHWAB" The Lok 6 of StLB falsely almost always referred to as "Z.6" is the only surviving copy of this vehicle family, it is operative on the Taurachbahn in use .
