Klaus-Uwe Panther

Klaus-Uwe Panther (born March 2, 1942 ) is a German Anglicist.

Life

From 1961 to 1967 he studied English , Romance studies , philosophy and pedagogy in Hamburg (1976: doctorate to Dr. phil.). From 1970 until his retirement in 2007 he was Scientific Councilor, Scientific Senior Councilor and Professor at the University of Hamburg . From 1980 to 1981 he worked at Indiana University Bloomington , Department of English and Department of Linguistics. In the winter semester 1984/1985 he worked at the University of California at Berkeley , Department of Linguistics. From 1985 to 1988 he was the speaker (dean) of the linguistics department at the University of Hamburg. From 1988 to 1989 he was Deputy Speaker ( Vice Dean ) of the Linguistics Department at the University of Hamburg. From 1990 to 1999 he was a member of the Cognitive Science Graduate School at the University of Hamburg. In the winter semester 1992/1993: he worked at the University of Bordeaux Montaigne , URF des Pays Anglophones. From 1993 to 1999 he was program officer of the Institute for English and American Studies for the exchange program with the Department of American Studies at Eötvös Loránd University . From 1999 to 2007 he was program officer at the Institute for English and American Studies for the Socrates program of the European Union. From 2002 to 2003 he worked at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale , Department of Linguistics. On May 21, 2007, he became an honorary professor at Xi'an International Studies University. From 2012 to 2014 he was Distinguished Visiting Professor at Nanjing Pedagogical University .

His focus is on cognitive linguistics, pragmatics, motivation of grammatical structures and control theory (cooperation with Klaus-Michael Köpcke ).
