Klaus Baschleben (born April 8, 1946 in Magdeburg , † June 13, 2005 in Leipzig ) was a German theater critic .

Live and act

Klaus Baschleben, son of Harry Baschleben , attended the advanced secondary school in Gera - one of his classmates was the future actor Andreas Schmidt-Schaller . Baschleben began his theater career as a stage worker in Gera. He later studied theater studies in Leipzig. From 1969 to 1979 he was first assistant director in Potsdam , then head director in Frankfurt (Oder) . He directed Bertolt Brecht , Heinrich von Kleist and Seán O'Casey . He wrote theater reviews and film reviews for various newspapers and magazines.

During the fall of the Berlin Wall he was also politically active and was one of the speakers at the Alexanderplatz demonstration on November 4, 1989 . He became editor-in-chief of the National-Zeitung , which was renamed Berliner Allgemeine on February 1, 1990 and discontinued on June 30, 1990. Baschleben then worked for the General German Intelligence Service (ADN) and from 1991 worked for the Berliner Zeitung .

He later became press spokesman for Christoph Schroth in Cottbus . Since 1995 he has been responsible for theater reporting for the Leipziger Volkszeitung . In 2005 he succumbed to cancer and was buried in Leipzig's southern cemetery.
