Klaus Eberhard (born April 4, 1956 in Baden , Lower Austria ) is a former Austrian ski racer . The downhill specialist competed in the Ski World Cup from 1975 to 1978 and achieved a podium in the process. Due to several injuries, he had to give up top-class sport at the age of 24.

Career

Eberhard attended the main ski school in Lilienfeld and then the ski high school in Stams . After some good results in the European Cup , the downhill specialist contested his first World Cup race in January 1975 on the Patscherkofel near Innsbruck . Two months later, with ninth place in Val Gardena, he reached the points for the first time.

On December 20, 1975, the Lower Austrian surprisingly achieved second place in the downhill run from Schladming . With further good results, including fourth place in Morzine , he finished sixth in the Downhill World Cup. At the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, he was affected by a slight injury that he had suffered during the last downhill training and only reached 19th place. Eberhard also had to struggle with injuries throughout the 1976/77 season. Therefore, he only made a few World Cup appearances and never reached the points. In the European Cup he won the downhill from San Sicario . In the winter of 1977/78 he also got good results in the World Cup. The best result of the season was fourth place in Cortina d'Ampezzo . He got into the team for the 1978 World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , but was not used there despite good training performances.

At the beginning of the 1978/79 season, Eberhard again suffered a serious injury, which is why he could not take part in any races during the entire winter. He attempted a comeback the next year, but suffered another serious injury that eventually forced him to retire. Eberhard was later also active in motorsport and won the overall ranking of the Porsche Alpine Cup in 2004.
