Klaus Geldmacher (born January 25, 1940 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German object artist .

Life

Geldmacher, whose brother is the musician Dietrich Geldern , played as a student under the name of Klaus Geldern as a trumpeter in Frankfurt jazz bands , a. a. 1958 with the Blue Washboard Five , 1959–1960 with the Barrelhouse Jazzband . From 1961 he worked as a cornet player alongside Abbi Hübner at the Jailhouse Jazzmen in Hamburg. He first studied psychology and education, from 1964 to 1970 art at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts . In 1968 he took part in Documenta IV. In the same year he became a member of the CO-OP artist cooperative Hamburg , which wanted to market its work directly by bypassing the art trade. As AStA chairman in Hamburg, Geldmacher tried in 1969 in the Cologne gallery Der Spiegel to make his own price calculation transparent with the exhibition Art as a commodity . From 1972, in addition to his artistic work, he also had cultural-political activities within the SPD . Klaus Geldmacher was managing director of the IGBK from 1972 to 1973 and managing director of the German Association of Artists from 1973 to 1974 .

He has lived and worked in Mülheim an der Ruhr since 1997 .
