Francesco Mariotti

Francesco Mariotti (born April 13, 1943 in Bern ) is a Swiss object , installation and light artist . He lives and works in Zurich .

life and work

Francesco Mariotti's “Light Art Benches” were set up in 2005 on Georgsplatz in Hanover .

Francesco Mariotti was born in Bern, Switzerland in 1943 and grew up in Lima , Peru from 1953 to 1961 . He studied from 1965 to 1966 at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris and from 1966 to 1969 at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg . From 1977 to 1978 Mariotti was a lecturer at the Art School in Lima and until 1980 supervised numerous art and culture projects in Peru. From 1982 to 1987 he was General Secretary of the Video Art Festival in Locarno .

The art of Francesco Mariotti has an intellectual as well as poetic-aesthetic and political claim. Although the appearance of his work is more of a technical nature, his objects and installations have such poetic names as: Stella Nera , Superlucciola , Canto cuántico , Sacramora or El Jardin Híbrido .

He had his first solo exhibitions in the Stummer + Hubschmid gallery in Zurich. In 1968 he worked for the first time with Klaus Geldmacher , and that year they were represented at the 4th documenta in Kassel with a joint light, sound and movement installation . The collaboration was repeated at different times.
