Klaus Hierholzer
Klaus Hierholzer (born June 8, 1929 in Konstanz , † February 11, 2007 in Allensbach ) was a German doctor and physiologist .
Live and act
His parents were the government veterinarian Erhard Hierholzer and his wife Isolde Hierholzer, b. Werner. He studied medicine in Tübingen, Frankfurt / Main and Innsbruck. He then worked at the Institute for Pharmacology at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg , where he received his PhD in 1954. med. PhD . This was followed by a research stay at Cornell University in New York , USA. From 1960 to 1964 he worked in the medical clinic of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , during which time he acquired specialist certification for internal medicine. In 1964 he moved to the Institute for Physiology at the Free University of Berlin , where he completed his habilitation in 1966 .
In 1968 he accepted a position as professor and director at the newly founded Institute for Clinical Physiology , a research institute located in the main building of the recently opened Steglitz University Hospital (now the Benjamin Franklin Campus of the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin). He headed the institute until his retirement in 1995.
His teaching and research focused on endocrinology and the physiology of the kidney . Another area of research was the historical development of nephrology and the exodus of science from Berlin before and after 1933.
From 1977 to 1979 he was Vice President of the Free University of Berlin . From 1985 to 1991 he was a senator and a member of the main committee of the German Research Foundation .
He was buried on February 16, 2007 in the main cemetery in Konstanz .
