Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock (after 1980 also Cosmic Hoffmann , born January 30, 1951 in Duisburg ; † October 14, 2017 in Goch ) was a German multi-instrumentalist and composer of synth rock . He gained fame especially for his work with the Mellotron .

Career

Hoffmann-Hoock received his first musical training in guitar and drums and in 1969 he founded his first band, Archeopteryx . His successor band Impuls initially worked closely with other rock bands such as Nektar , UFO and Earth & Fire , but only one tape recording remained from this time. In 1972 Hoffmann-Hoock was a guest at a Genesis concert; the listed composition Watcher of the Skies inspired him to work with the then still young Mellotron, whose sound fascinated him. With the purchase of a Minimoog he founded an important collection of early synthesizers , which from now on would determine his subsequent work.

1976–1978 Hoffmann-Hoock was a member of the German band Alma-Ata as a guitarist, keyboardist and songwriter . In 1980 he teamed up with Georg Mahr and Andreas Hub to form the music trio "Cosmic Hoffmann", and the band "Mind over Matter" was founded six years later. The music Mind over Matters mainly concentrated on meditative - psychidelic experimental music based on the Far Eastern model. Since the nineties, there has been mainly concert work throughout Germany and Europe, and Hoffmann-Hoock was in demand as an expert for the Mellotron throughout Germany.

Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock died in October 2017 after a short, severe kidney disease in his hometown of Goch.
