Klaus Kürvers (* 1950 in Essen ) is a German architect , building historian, author and musician. He mainly publishes on the architectural and cultural history of Berlin and, as a bass player, belongs to the Berlin real-time music scene.

Kürvers learned double bass a . a. with Peter Trunk . He was a member of the Essen Youth Symphony Orchestra and has played free jazz since 1967 . From 1969 to 1971 he and Rainer Brüninghaus belonged to the jazz rock band Eiliff before he stopped his musical activities for the time being.

After studying in Cologne and Berlin (musicology, philosophy, sociology and architecture), he has been working as a building historian in Berlin since 1978, initially at the University of the Arts . Kürvers has been self-employed since 1997.

The three-volume standard work Das Berliner Mietshaus (1740–1989) was created together with Jonas Geist . He also presented architectural studies (for example on Villa Schöningen or the urban development of Berlin) as well as work on the work of the architects Hans Scharoun , Albert Speer and the bassist Peter Kowald . In 1996 he did his doctorate at the Berlin University of the Arts on Scharoun's work, in particular the Schminke house . He also carried out a series of detailed studies on selected labyrinths in Sweden, Spain, India and Berlin.

Since 2006 he has been working as a bassist again and has played with numerous musicians, including a. with Tristan Honsinger , Tobias Delius , Willi Kellers , Ignaz Schick and Els Vandeweyer . Since 2010 CD releases have been made, among others with the Zeitkratzer group ( Grand Orchestra ), the double bass quartet Sequoia and the violinist Thea Farhadian.
