Simeon Martin

Simeon Martin (born October 20, 1754 in Rehoboth , Province of Massachusetts Bay , †  September 3, 1819 in Seekonk , Massachusetts ) was an American politician . Between 1808 and 1810 and again from 1811 to 1816 he was Vice Governor of the State of Rhode Island .

Career

Simeon Martin grew up during the British colonial era. He joined the American Revolution in the early 1770s . He took part in the War of Independence , where he was temporarily under the command of George Washington and was involved in several skirmishes. After the war, he moved to Newport , Rhode Island, where he worked in commerce. There he also embarked on a political career that led him to the Rhode Island House of Representatives for several years . His party affiliation is not recorded. He also became a member and major general of the state militia. Later he was their commander as adjutant general . He also belonged to the board of Brown University as a Member of Corporation to.

Between 1808 and 1810, Martin served as Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island alongside James Fenner . He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . From 1811 to 1816 he held this office again under Governor William Jones . In 1816 he renounced another candidacy. He died on September 3, 1819 in Seekonk, Bristol County .
