George Engs

George Engs ( August 27, 1786December 14, 1846 ) was an American politician . In 1835 and 1836 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Rhode Island .

Career

The sources on George Engs are relatively poor. Nothing is known about his youth and school education. Later he worked at least temporarily in the banking industry. The Newport Savings Bank lists it as one of its first directors. He was also politically active in Rhode Island. Between 1835 and 1836 he was at the side of John Brown Francis lieutenant governor of that state. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate .

In the 1840 presidential election , he was one of four Rhode Island electors to officially elect William Henry Harrison as US President . From this one can conclude that he was a member of his Whig Party . George Engs died on December 14, 1846 and was buried in Newport .
