Arthur Wellington Dennis (born April 11, 1846 in Providence , Rhode Island , †  November 19, 1920 ) was an American politician . In 1909 and 1910 he was Lieutenant Governor of the State of Rhode Island.

Career

Arthur Dennis attended public schools in his home country including Providence High School . In the years 1863 and 1864 he worked for the federal government as Provost Marshal in Salem ( Oregon active). He then returned to Providence. There he initially worked for a cotton merchant and as an agent for a New York company. He later worked in the shoe industry. He was the founder and until 1912 CFO of Elmwood Mills . He then served as President of the International Braid Company, which is also active in the shoe business . He was also a director of the Lawton Spinning Company and the National Exchange Bank of Providence .

Politically, Dennis joined the Republican Party . He was a member of the Providence City Council and was an MP and President of the Rhode Island House of Representatives in 1906 and 1907 . In 1908 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island at the side of Aram J. Pothier . He held this office between 1909 and 1910. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active. He was a member of numerous organizations and associations. Arthur Dennis died on November 19, 1920.
