Nathaniel Bullock

Nathaniel Bullock (born May 1, 1779 in Rehoboth , Bristol County , Massachusetts , †  November 13, 1867 in Bristol , Rhode Island ) was an American politician . In 1842 and 1843 he was Lieutenant Governor of the State of Rhode Island.

Career

After studying law and being admitted to the bar, Natahiel Bullock began working in this profession. He later embarked on a political career in Rhode Island. He was elected to the Rhode Island House of Representatives, serving as President in 1825 and 1826. Between 1827 and 1836 he headed the federal customs authority in his state. In 1842, Bullock was elected Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island alongside Samuel Ward King . He held this office until 1843, when he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active. He died on November 13, 1867 in Bristol, where he was also buried.

Bullock came from a well-known family of politicians. He was a great-nephew of Congressman Stephen Bullock (1735-1816) and the father of J. Russell Bullock (1815-1899) who should also become Vice Governor of Rhode Island, among other things. Other somewhat more extensive relatives held a number of political offices on various levels.
