Duncan Pell

Duncan C. Pell (born January 23, 1807 , †  January 16, 1874 in Newport County , Rhode Island ) was an American politician . In 1865 and 1866 he was Lieutenant Governor of the State of Rhode Island.

Career

The sources on Duncan Pell are very poor. Nothing is known about his youth and school education. There is also no information in the sources about his career outside of politics. What is certain is that he lived in Newport at least for a time . His party affiliation is also not given in the sources. In 1865 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island, alongside James Y. Smith . He held this office between 1865 and 1866. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . He was the father of Duncan Archibald Pell (1842–1874), a well-known officer in the United States in the Union Army during the Civil War . The elder Pell died on January 16, 1874, his son on October 23 of the same year.
