Elizabeth H. Roberts (born April 17, 1957 in Washington, DC ) is an American politician . Between 2007 and 2015 she was Deputy Governor of the State of Rhode Iceland .

Career

Elizabeth Roberts studied biology at Brown University until 1978 . Then she was at Boston University until 1984 , where she studied health care management . In the following years she worked as a business consultant and as a manager in the healthcare sector. Politically, she joined the Democratic Party . She served in the Rhode Island Senate from 1996 to 2006 .

In 2006 she was elected lieutenant governor of Rhode Island alongside Donald Carcieri . She has held this office since January 2007 after being re-elected. She is the Deputy Governor and Chairwoman of the State Senate. Since 2011, she served under the new governor, Lincoln Chafee . In August 2008, she took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Denver , where Barack Obama was nominated as a presidential candidate. She is a member of several organizations and associations. She has two grown daughters with her husband Thomas. In 2014 she did not stand for re-election.
