Richard A. Light

Richard A. Licht (born March 25, 1948 in Providence , Rhode Island ) is an American politician . Between 1985 and 1989 he was Lieutenant Governor of the State of Rhode Island.

Career

Richard Licht is a nephew of Frank Licht (1916–1987), who was Governor of Rhode Island between 1969 and 1973 . He studied at Harvard University until 1968 . After a subsequent law degree at the same university and at Boston University and his admission as a lawyer in 1972, he began to work in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1975 and 1984 he was a member of the Rhode Island Senate .

In 1984, Licht was elected Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island alongside Edward D. DiPrete . He held this office between 1985 and 1989. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1988 he ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate . In 1996, 2004 and 2008 he took part as a delegate at the respective Democratic National Conventions . In all of the presidential election campaigns of the past few decades, he supported the democratic candidate. Since 2003, Richard Licht has served as Chairman of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee for Rhode Island. He is also a member of several other organizations and associations.
