Daniel Greene Littlefield

Daniel Greene Littlefield (born November 23, 1822 in North Kingstown , Rhode Island , †  May 31, 1891 ) was an American politician . Between 1889 and 1890 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Rhode Iceland.

Career

Around 1828 Daniel Littlefield moved with his parents to Scituate , Providence County . There he began to work for the Jackson Cotton Mill company at the age of eight . The clothing industry was to become decisive for his future life. Later he was temporarily active in other industries. But his main business remained the clothing industry. He built his own company and became president of the Florence Sewing Machine Co. From 1846 he was based in Northampton ( Massachusetts ). In 1863 he came to Pawtucket in Rhode Iceland, where he headed the company Pawtucket Hair Cloth Co. took over. The company was successful. Through many trips abroad, especially to Europe, Littlefield acquired new knowledge in his industry, which he used to advantage in his companies. Later he also got into the banking industry. At the time of his death, he was President of the Providence County Savings Bank . He also ran the Pawtucket Hair Cloth Co. and Royal Weaving Co.

Politically, Littlefield was originally a member of the Whigs . After its dissolution, he became a member of the Republican Party founded in 1854 . During his time in Massachusetts he was a member of the state legislature there in 1861 and 1862 . In 1878 he was Honorary Commissioner of the Rhode Island State Government at the World Exhibition in Paris . In 1888 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island at the side of Herbert W. Ladd . He held this office between 1889 and 1890. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . He died on May 31, 1891.
