William TC Wardwell

William Thomas Church Wardwell (born September 20, 1835 in Bristol , Rhode Island , † 1907 ) was an American politician . In 1890 and 1891 he was Lieutenant Governor of the State of Rhode Island.

Career

William Wardwell attended public schools in his home country. In 1848 he graduated from high school. He then completed an apprenticeship as a jeweler. But he didn't work long in this profession. He spent some time in Cuba and New York City before returning to Bristol in 1859. Together with his brother, he took over his father's business in the wood industry. In 1872 he paid off his brother and became the sole owner of the company. In 1894 it became the Wardwell Lumber Company , of which William Wardwell became president. He was also active in other industries. For example, he was President of the First National Bank of Bristol and one of the directors of the Industrial Trust Company of Providence . He also took part in the affairs of his homeland and became a member of several organizations and associations, including the Freemasons .

Politically, Wardwell was a member of the Democratic Party . In June 1876 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in St. Louis . In 1889 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island at the side of John W. Davis . He held this office between 1890 and 1891. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . He had previously belonged to this as well as the House of Representatives from Rhode Island . In 1893 he ran unsuccessfully for governor. He died in 1907 and was buried in his hometown of Bristol. His exact date and place of death are not known.
