Enos Lapham

Enos Lapham (born September 13, 1821 in Burrillville , Rhode Island , †  June 21, 1894 ) was an American politician . In 1888 and 1889 he was Lieutenant Governor of the State of Rhode Island.

Career

Enos Lapham attended public schools in his homeland. He then worked in a cotton processing company. Soon afterwards he had his own company in this branch. From 1839 he ran his own factory with his brother, which was very successful and was later moved to Centerville. After his brother's death in 1883, he became the sole owner of the company. His entrepreneurial skills made him a wealthy and respected citizen of his homeland. There he also got into the banking industry and became President of Centerville National Bank and Centerville Savings Bank .

Politically, Lapham had been a member of the Republican Party since it was founded in 1854. He was a member of Warwick City Council . From 1886 to 1888 he was a member of the Rhode Island Senate . In 1887 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island alongside Royal C. Taft . He held this office between 1888 and 1889. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. Enos Lapham died on June 21, 1894 and was buried in Providence .
