Edward W. Lawton
Edward W. Lawton was an American politician . Between 1847 and 1849 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Rhode Island .
There are virtually no usable sources on Edward Lawton. He lived at least temporarily in Newport . Between 1847 and 1849 he was Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island on the side of Elisha Harris . He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party founded in 1854 . In the presidential election of 1856 , he served as one of four electors in his state who elected the nationwide defeated Republican candidate John C. Frémont .
