Jeffrey Hazard

Jeffrey Hazard (* 1762 , †  5. December 1840 ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1833 and 1835, and again in 1836 and 1837, he was Lieutenant Governor of the State of Rhode Island .

Career

The sources on Jeffrey Hazard are very poor. He must have studied law because he later served as a judge. For many years he was a member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives . He was also the presiding judge in his state's appeals court. Between 1810 and 1818 he was a judge on the Rhode Island Supreme Court . His political party affiliation is not given in the sources. From 1833 to 1835 he was at the side of John Brown Francis Lieutenant Governor of Rhodes Island. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . He held this office again in 1836 and 1837, also under Governor Francis. After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active. He died on December 5, 1840 and was buried in Exeter , where he had lived for a long time.
