John J. Reynolds (politician)

John Jonathan Reynolds (born December 7, 1812 in North Kingstown , Rhode Island , †  October 17, 1908 there ) was an American politician . In 1854 and 1855 he was Lieutenant Governor of the State of Rhode Island.

Career

Nothing is known about the youth and schooling of John Reynolds. He lived all his life in Wickford , a suburb of North Kingstown. All that is known of his non-political activities is that he was the last president of North Kingston Bank , founded in 1818, until 1865 , which after a merger that year took the name Wickford National Bank , whose first president was Reynolds. His political party affiliation is also not mentioned in the sources.

In 1854, Reynolds was elected Lieutenant Governor of Rhode Island alongside William W. Hoppin . He held this office between 1854 and 1855. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he was no longer politically active. He was married to Hanna Congdon (1814-1894), with whom he had five children, and died on October 17, 1908 at the age of 95.
