Bernard A. Jackvony

Bernard A. Jackvony (born April 9, 1945 in Providence , Rhode Island ) is an American politician . Between 1997 and 1999 he was Lieutenant Governor of the State of Rhode Island.

Career

Bernard Jackvony attended the University of Connecticut in Storrs until 1962 . He then graduated from Bryant College in Smithfield until 1967 , where he studied accounting. After completing a law degree at Suffolk University in Boston and being admitted to the bar in 1970, he began to work in this profession. Until 1975 he studied tax law at Boston University . He is admitted to the bar in both Rhode Island and Florida . In the meantime, he was a captain in the United States Marine Corps from 1970 to 1973 . Since 1970 he has worked for several law firms. Today he works for the law firm Pannone Lopes Devereaux & West LLC . He is also a member of numerous organizations and associations.

Politically, Jackvony joined the Republican Party . After the resignation of Vice Governor Robert Weygand , who had been elected to the United States House of Representatives , Jackvony was named his successor in the second highest office of state in Rhode Island. He held this position between 1997 and 1999. He was Deputy Governor Lincoln Almond and Chairman of the State Senate . In 1998 he tried unsuccessfully for his official election to this office. In 2000 and 2001, Bernard Jackvony was Republican President for Rhode Island; In 2004 he took part as a delegate at the Republican National Convention in New York , where President George W. Bush was nominated for re-election.
