Republican National Convention 2004
The Republican Party 2004 ( 2004 Republican National Convention ) was the nominating convention of the Republican Party , just Republicans, the United States ahead of the US presidential elections in 2004 . It took place from August 30th to September 2nd, 2004 at Madison Square Garden , New York .
Nomination congresses in the USA
The nomination conventions are one of the highlights of the election year in the USA. At these national party conferences, which traditionally take place in the summer, the state delegates vote on the party's presidential candidate. In practice, these are political folk festivals that follow a precisely planned dramaturgy. These events have lost a lot of their once central importance, since (due to the month-long pre-election campaign) the result is already known in advance. Originally that was not the case: the primaries - the numerous caucuses and primaries - were only intended to provide an opinion on which candidate has the best chances. The actual decision, however, should only be made at the nomination party conference. The parties use the nomination congresses today primarily for PR, in order to draw the attention of the media and the public to their candidate.
The situation in 2004
On November 2, 2004, the Americans elected their 44th president. For the Republicans, President George W. Bush entered the race again. For this reason, the Republican Party did not hold any primaries. The Democratic nomination convention took place from July 26th to July 29th, 2004 in Boston .
General
2509 delegates were expected in New York. In the run-up to and during the convention, there had been several large-scale demonstrations in different parts of New York. As expected, George W. Bush was also officially designated as a Republican candidate for the office of US President by acclamation.
