Kerry Murphy Healey (born April 30, 1960 in Omaha , Nebraska ) is an American politician . She was lieutenant governor of the state of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007 .

Career

Kerry Murphy, her maiden name, was born in Omaha, but grew up in Daytona Beach ( Florida ), where she attended Daytona Beach Community College . She also familiarized herself with the latest computer technology and worked on the side in a few part-time jobs and later for a newspaper in Daytona Beach. She urgently needed the money to help her parents who were in financial difficulties. She then graduated from Harvard University with the help of a scholarship until 1982 . She later studied political science and law at Trinity College in Dublin . From 1987 to 1997, she was the legal and safety advisor to Abt Associates, Inc. She then became a faculty member at Endicott College and the University of Massachusetts at Lowell . Politically, she became a member of the Republican Party . She rose to state chairman in Massachusetts. She held this office in 2001 and 2002. In 1998 and 2000 she ran unsuccessfully for the Massachusetts House of Representatives .

In 2002 Healey was elected lieutenant governor of Massachusetts at the side of Mitt Romney , with whom she was friends. She held this office between 2003 and 2007. She was Deputy Governor . In 2006 she ran for governor, but was defeated by the Democrat Deval Patrick . In spring 2007 she was employed by the Kennedy School of Government , which is part of Harvard University. In 2004 and 2008 she participated as a delegate at the respective Republican National Conventions . In 2008 she was appointed to a committee on judicial reform in Afghanistan . She is a member and board member of several charities and political organizations. In 2013, she was named President of Babson College , Wellesley . She is married and has two children.
